Thieves Household Cleaner VS Bleach

I was talking to a woman at the hospital the other day. She was telling me how she cleans her floors everyday with bleach as she has 20 dogs. While it is great she is trying to keep germs down and protect her animals from getting sick, she is unknowingly poisoning them and herself. She asked me what I would use and I told her I would (and do) use Thieves Household Cleaner from Young Living.

She asked some very good questions wondering if it killed parvo and other diseases common among housing large number of dogs. I knew it killed a lot, as the Thieves Essential Oil in it has been tested at Weber State University and found to kill 99.96% of airborne bacteria and viruses. But she wanted proof. I thought, I know a holistic vet who uses Young Living products in her vet clinic and on her clients as well. I will ask her what she thinks (and if she knows of any testing on those particular diseases) and what she uses. Here was her reply:

“There has been no actual testing - but I trust it more than bleach! I use it in the vet clinic for everything. You can actually find more data on how bleach is no longer effective against most things. We definitely KNOW that the bleach is toxic - so she can either 100% know she is doing harm, and maybe killing parvo. Or she can 100% know she is safe, and maybe killing parvo.

Worms are easy to kill - I don't worry about that at all - pick up poop, and use any cleaner and you'll be effective. There likely won't be any great studies with killing parvo ever done - I think even some of the chemical companies avoid it - as they don't want to prove that their cleaner doesn't work :)

with 20 dogs - she definitely needs to diffuse, diffuse, diffuse! Kill those environmental pathogens all the time! and kill odors!”

Facts about chlorine bleach-

· Household bleach, used to whiten fabrics or remove mold from surfaces, is a 5% solution of a stabilized form of chlorine. Chlorine is a poisonous, greenish-yellow gas described as having a choking odor. It is a very corrosive, hazardous chemical. Usually combined with other chemicals, it is used to disinfect water, purify metals, bleach wood pulp and make other chemicals.

· When inhaled during application, chlorine particles may cause lung and bronchial irritation, as well as headaches. Now think about your animals that are closer to the ground and have a keener sense of smell and are walking on it with their paws (skin).

· Common household bleach could be a cause of asthma and chronic bronchitis, researchers believe. A study involving domestic cleaners found a high incidence of both conditions, and the participants were all exposed to bleaching products as part of their work (Occup Environ Med, 2005; 62: 598-606).

· The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found dioxin (a toxic byproduct of chlorine) to be 300,000 times more potent as a carcinogen than DDT.

· Cancer-causing chemicals like chlorine found in many household products such as coffee filters, disposable diapers, paper towels, and bathroom tissue are readily absorbed through the skin

· Chlorine particles, according to some reports, may bio-accumulate in the Thyroid leading to reduced thyroid function and possibly thyroid cancer

· Chlorine bleach, a common disinfectant frequently found in scouring powders and cleaning solutions, is highly caustic, meaning it can burn skin and eyes — plus it can be fatal if swallowed and in high concentrations can aggravate asthma symptoms. When it travels from your drain into the natural world, it can create organochlorines (furans & dioxins), which are suspected

carcinogens as well as reproductive, neurological, and immune-system toxins

· Breast cancer, which now affects one in every eight women in North America, has recently been linked to the accumulation of chlorine compounds in the breast tissue. A study carried out in Hartford Connecticut, the first of it’s kind in North America, found that; “women with breast cancer have 50% to 60% higher levels of organochlorines (chlorination byproducts) in their breast tissue than women without breast cancer.”

· The first agent of chemical warfare was chlorine. WWII ended with an abundance of this cheap chemical. In the name of huge profits, it was added to our water supply and many other products. Scientists won't handle chlorine without protective gloves, facemasks, and ventilation, yet it is in most store-brand cleaners, including dishwasher detergents. The harmful effects are intensified when the fumes are heated, as in the shower. It ís in our drinking water, swimming pools, Jacuzzis, and more.
